Game Programming Laboratory 2021

The course theme for the ETH Game Programming Laboratory in 2021 was "Grimms' Fairy Tales". Students worked in small teams to create new games inspired by the theme.

Meove is a grid-based single-player puzzle game in which the player controls the movement of the main character. The story follows Grimm’s fairytale "Puss in Boots", subdivided into multiple levels. The player completes a level by fulfilling tasks that advance the story, however, the main task of the player is finding a way from a start- to an end- field in each level. SOMNIUM features a 2-4 player cooperative 2D (top-down view) game based on a series of Grimm’s fairy tales. Each level of the game is based on a specific Grimm’s fairy tale. The players of the game are children, who have to fight and overcome their Grimm’s inspired nightmares together, by firing and combining colored beams cooperatively to create specific colors and color in the monsters in a frightening, colorless world, thereby overcoming them. Looking Grimm is a single-player 2D platformer game, based on the tale of The Wolf and the Seven Young Goats. The game is set in the lair of the wolf from the tale, playing the youngest goat trying to rescue his siblings, who were eaten by the wolf. The goat needs to explore the lair, which consists of many connected rooms, and along the way will come across other characters that the player will be able to recruit on his quest. The main mechanic of the game is the time reversal ability of the goat. Seven Dwarfs: Legends Untold is a co-op hero-fighter game for two to four players with a mythical twist based on the Snow White fairytale by the Grimm Brothers. Every game is unique (an “untold legend”) in that there are infinite possibilities to play each level. The core objective of the game is for the seven dwarfs to protect Snow White by defending against increasingly evil waves of enemies sent to harm Snow White. Snow White resides inside a house at the center of a two dimensional world.
