Abstract
The project aims to combine the NPC engine and ICCTARVR framework to reconcile emergent narrative and AR systems, creating immersive storytelling experiences. The domain world de- signed is centred around airships that interact with each other and their surroundings, and the resulting application allows users to configure the placement of ships and harbours in the physical environment and initiate the simulation process. A user study evaluated the application, revealing the challenges and potentials encountered during the design. While the interweaving of the NPC engine and ICCTARVR framework yielded encouraging results, the study found that to produce a discernible storyline, the curation of simulation events to the user and a prominent protagonist is essential. The study also found that AR enhances immersion and incorporating user movement and orientation is crucial for natural interaction.
