We develop novel augmented reality (AR) technologies for mobile applications that enable interactive and playful experiences in which virtual objects and stories are seamlessly integrated into our physical world. In collaboration with the LGT Group and the Liechtenstein Princely Collections, we are designing and developing a prototype mobile AR app that includes AR experiences for selected artworks of the Princely Collections and demonstrates the potential of AR for museums. Through the app, artworks are virtually augmented with text, images, audio, video, 3D models, and advanced visual effects. The app creates a novel, playful, and interactive encounter with the artwork and provides the visitor with contextualized and personalized information. The project was initially demonstrated at the Digitaltag 2018 at the Stadtmuseum in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, when the app was publicly demonstrated and tested by public visitors.
